Warning: Please be aware of the following
· Most providers issue unrecognized in-house certificates. Before paying any deposit or fees, please request written confirmation that, with their certificates, you can apply for a gold CSCS engineer surveyor card, or they will refund your money. Courses without qualifications usually tend to be equipment training with little theory and understanding of principles of surveying and setting out.
· Ask to see a copy of their certificates, make sure the name of OFQUAL is on it, otherwise it is worthless.
· Awarding bodies monitor and quality-assure their centres; those who issue their in-house certificates are not quality-assured. don’t believe their marketing hype.
· Avoid non-VAT-registered providers. This is a major red flag; an established training provider should be VAT registered. They avoid tax and VAT and look a lot cheaper than others. Not VAT-registered providers usually delete the learner's details from their records as if they never existed. You can not claim back 20% tax and 20% VAT if they are not VAT registered and there is no invoice. If you are tax and VAT registered you can calim back 40% of Finchley College fees.
· Check if you can re-join next month to make up for missing classes. If the answer is no, then there is no post-training support.
· Find out if they are a limited company. Limited companies are safer, as their records are open to the public. Try to avoid non-limited company providers, as you would never know who the owners are.
-
Please do not part with any money unless all of the above have been confirmed, ask questions before payment and not after as most deposits are non refundable.
