To achieve a level 3 Diploma in Engineering Surveying you will need to pass a detailed assessment of your competency in using surveying equipment and complete knowledge questions. We also offer this course through distance learning.
Option 1: Assessment only for experienced engineer / surveyors. Candidates will receive a nationally recognised Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Surveying including assessment and certificate fees, half a day of on site assessment at your work place by a college assessor or send us videos of your competency at work and submit your answers to knowledge questions. Candidates can apply for a CSCS Gold card as Engineer Surveyor. Learners can attend one day GPS and Robotics Total station training free of charge.

Session 8 and 9: Saturday and Sunday: 2.30 to 6.30 pm
Plus one day on or off site assessment depending on learner. We will visit you at your work place for a day of revision and assessment

Option 4: Intermediate level: 9 weekend sessions: classes are held on the first two Saturday and Sunday of each month for two months plus an extra session for revision and assessment

Sessions 5, 6, 7 & 8: The first two weekends of the following month on both Saturdays and Sundays 2.30-6.30 pm

Option 6: Distance learning for national and international students
For those who live far from London or abroad, we offer this course through distance learnring, the fee depends on the background of each learner, please contact us for fees.
As soon as the learners are registered on the course they can apply for a temporary red trainee CSCS card which is valid for a year. Once the course is complete we will claim certificate and they can then apply for a Gold CSCS Engineer Surveyor card. The assessment, internal verification and external certification process may take up to 6 months, although we try our best to complete this quicker.
Short one day courses
Following the completion of short courses learners will receive a Finchley College certificate of achievement.
One day GPS and Robotic Total Station training
This course is suitable for existing engineers or surveyors without experience of using GPS or Robotic instruments. This one day course will train you to use them effectively for setting out, surveying and establishing control on sites. Please note that there is no certificate for this course.
In this one day course you will learn to establish a traverse around a large site, carry out angle, distance and height corrections using two different methods, establish your own 3 dimensional coordinates for easting, northing and height of the traverse stations and if necessary convert them to global coordinates.
In this one day course you will learn to use an automatic level (dumpy) and a laser level for level survey of sites. You will learn to carry out a two peg test to check the accuracy of both the laser and dumpy as well as survey a site and carry out correct booking procedure of the readings including checks for errors and adjustments using a variety of methods.
Mathematics of surveying
If you lack knowledge of SIN, COS and TAN of an angle, you don't know what they are for or how to use them, then this course is for you. You will learn concepts of geometry, calculating bearing and distance of a line, calculating areas of triangles, rectangles and irregular shapes
Using a programmable calculator for setting out and surveying purposes
In this one day course you will learn to use a large number of commonly used programs in a scientific programmable calculator. Fee includes one calculator already programmed for use at work with full licence.
